23 Sep 18 OIIIIII!!! BOM DIA  Os missionarios em Juiz de Fora Vamos This week in the mission we had MISSION TOUR which is when a member of the seventy comes and the whole mission meets together to become better missionaries and to get re-centered on what’s important. So, because every missionary in the whole mission was meeting together the whole week kind of revolved around that one day. My new hair cut I got a fresh new hair cut which looked dang good even though I didn’t know how to explain to the guy cutting my hair what I wanted haha  >Also after hearing Nates hair cutting story I was paranoid about my trainer messing with me and asking the guy to give me a crazy hair cut haha< We helped Thaiane, Thaslison, Thayne and Luiz move this week and I think when we said we would help them, we bit off more than we could chew haha Us missionaries where the only ones there to help them move. We spent the whole day loading their things onto a truck ...

Milagres

Dear Family Hey It’s me again with your weekly update on the one and only Elder Sheffield. First things first. Sorry about last weeks email. It was unfinished and a little rough around the edges. Each week we email from a little internet café and last week we got kicked off early because there were a lot of people all trying to use computers. So Im at week 6 week in Pointe Nova and the people still can’t say my name. Hahaha I’ve heard just about every possible pronunciation of Sheffield. Lots of people call me “Elder Shesfeilde” or just “Elder Americano”. There’s a word here “Chefe” which means boss and pronounced like Sheffi, so when Im teaching people my name I just have them call me the boss in Portuguese haha.  And this week was full of  milagres! Miracles. I tried extra hard to just open my mouth and just talk to everyone even if I sound like a crazy person who doesn’t know Portuguese and this week was so great. We had Four baptisms  aqui  in Po...

I finally feel like I’m getting settled into the city and the mission work.  My attempt at homemade cookies We had family night with a family who haven’t been to church in a while, and we talked laughed and I tried to make cookies. But here’s the deal. I don’t have measuring cups and all the measurements are in metric system and also in Portuguese! All the ingredients are different and we don’t have a whole lot of cooking supplies like a spatula or a cookie tray. So even with all of these obstacles the cookies turned out pretty well! This week we had divisões, which is when we trade companions with the zone leaders and learn about how to work and teach and plan better. Our zone is pretty big, and to get to the city of Lafiete (zone headquarters) we had to take a 6 hour bus ride so all Tuesday and Thursday we were either waiting in a bus station or on a bus.  Jesus Christ statue in Lafiete But the day in between I learned so much about how to be a bette...

This week was long.   The missionaries in our area of pointe nova are Elder Ribeiro (who calls himself elder gordo) from central Brazil. Elder Chan a really funny energetic elder from the Philippines. He knows a little english, but refuses to speak to help me learn Portuguese. Elder Arruda, my trainor.  Elder Chan Living with the other elders is driving me a little crazy and I need to work on being more patient with the elders. I like having all of my things a certain way and Elder Ribeiro and Arruda are... well not that way hahaha. Im trying to not care so much about my things and the things around me and work more working harder and growing more A good friend of ours, passed away this week he was 70ish years old. He was always sitting on the front row early Sunday morning ready for church. He was a really nice guy. The funerals are very different here in Brazil, but it was good we got to go and support the family. He was the only member of his family...
