you made it mom 49 years but you still look 29.
I decided my new tradition will be making a cake here for the birthdays that happen there. it’s a win win for both of us!! I made a cake for your birthday. It was vanilla with a strawberry glaze and topped with strawberries. It was so good! sorry I can send a piece of it to you but my companions really enjoyed it.

I helped teach an English class this week! I know... I know... how the heck did I teach an English class when that has always been my worst subject! my English teachers where probably rolling in their graves but it was actually so good. it was at a prestige language learning school here in town and they were excited to talk to fluent English speakers
we talked about sports food life in the USA and they helped me learn about Portuguese and life here in brazil!!! They invited me back to do it again!
My new companion is Elder Gaevara. He is from Peru and he’s a great missionary so spiritual. He has some knee problems, so he’s not as energetic or excited to climb hills, but he makes up for not being able to make it all over the city with his mission experience. Working smarter not harder. I’m the guide of the city, which it’s pretty intimidating, but I love knowing the winding streets of the city.
Charles was the first person I visited here in the , and we’ve been visiting him this entire time and guess what?... HE GOT BAPTIZED THIS WEEK!
We visited Charles Thursday and he said he wasn’t ready to be baptized. But by the end of an hour and a half and after the baptismal interview, he and Elder Gaevara both were tearing up a little and he was excited for his baptism which was to be Sunday morning. What a miracle!!!
Elder Gaevara has been talking a lot about using our spiritual gifts that God gave us. Elder Gaevara loves to draw, so he drew a pictures of the Savior in getsemani (Gethsemane) for Charles. We met a member who’s a pro on guitar. We asked him to play the guitar for us, as the 4 of us missionaries sang in Portuguese then I sang in English. It was such a great baptism
I love you so much mom. Thank you so much for your example. You have always been good to me. I remember one of my first memories. It was in Disney World. We were in a class learning to draw Disney characters, and I made a little mistake. I started crying and you said “hey we can just draw it a little different and fix the mistake”. I don’t know why I was thinking about that this week but, thank you so much for always helping me fix my mistakes and for always supporting me and growing my talents. You know you’re the best mom. I’m so glad I had you to help me be the great man and person I am today.
Ok mom you can stop crying now.
I love you so much
Last week the time changed here, so now I’m 4 hours ahead. So sorry about last week but I think my new companion likes writing later in the e-day so well see.
I love you all so much
-Elder Sheffield
