Milagres

Dear Family
Hey It’s me again with your weekly update on the one and only Elder Sheffield. First things first. Sorry about last weeks email. It was unfinished and a little rough around the edges. Each week we email from a little internet café and last week we got kicked off early because there were a lot of people all trying to use computers.

So Im at week 6 week in Pointe Nova and the people still can’t say my name. Hahaha I’ve heard just about every possible pronunciation of Sheffield. Lots of people call me “Elder Shesfeilde” or just “Elder Americano”. There’s a word here “Chefe” which means boss and pronounced like Sheffi, so when Im teaching people my name I just have them call me the boss in Portuguese haha.

And this week was full of milagres! Miracles.
I tried extra hard to just open my mouth and just talk to everyone even if I sound like a crazy person who doesn’t know Portuguese and this week was so great.

We had Four baptisms aqui in Pointe Nova and they were amazing. The two older sister of Luiz Fernando, Thaiane and Tayna and his younger brother Thalisson.
They are an amazing family and have overcome so much to be baptized. We had some amazing spiritual moments with them this week studying the scriptures and talking about the holy ghost The day before the baptism Thaiane ask ME to baptize her -crazy right? why would she pick the only missionary here who isn’t fluent in Portuguese hahaha.
Elder Chan got transferred this week. We were on divisions together and he got a call to be moved to the other side of the mission! I’m starting to think I’m cursed, because every time a missionary is my companion he gets transferred. Elder Kzesck got transferred here for his last week as a missionary he leaves next Thursday to go home. It’s weird that we are on opposite side of a mission and he has so much advise and is such a help to me. His best advice was that the mission goes by fast and to not let it fly by me.

In the morning we got up at 4:30am to prepare the baptism and fill the font and we had a baptism for Kettlen and it was so great. She got baptized by her Avo (grandpa) who was just baptized and confirmed a month ago! Later that day we were running around trying to get things ready for the other 3 baptisms. Elder Ribeiro baptized Thalisson, Elder Arruda baptized Tayna, then I got to baptize Thaiane. Everything went smoothly.
We were invited to the 50th birthday of our good friend Cocieçao and she makes the best food. She’s practically our mission mom. And after everyone left we talk to them about their conversion story and it was so cool.

I love  that this gospel is a gospel of overcoming and I saw this week so many people that overcame so much to be where they are. I overcame a lot to here now and if we just take each challenge one at a time when can overcome everything

Amo voces
-Elder Sheffield
